Hands Up for Families:

with Deaf & Hard of Hearing Children

Designed for hearing parents, families, or gardians of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. This track offers opportunities to learn, connect, and grow together while building communication skills and strengthening family connections within the Deaf community. You do not need to bring your child to register and you do not need to know American Sign Language (ASL). Simply - come. And know that you are not alone.

The Hands Up Conference does offer Lil Hands Up Conference for DHH children ages 4-12 (must be potty trained) and their siblings. This is not a child care opportunity for the conference in general. To register your child, the guardian must register as attending Hands Up for Families.

Need to bring your DHH child?

The Lil’ Hands Up Conference is a language-rich, immersive experience designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) children and their siblings to learn, play, connect, and grow together in an all-immersion environment.

Who Can Participate?

  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and their siblings
  • Children ages 4–12
  • Children who are fully potty trained

We encourage families to bring siblings so children can share the experience together! Please note that this program is specifically designed for DHH children and their siblings. CODAs, GODAs, and other children who do not fall into these categories are not eligible for this program. All children must have a parent or guardian participating in the Hands Up for Parents program or Foundations Track.

Important Age Information
Children ages 13 and older are registered as adults for The Hands Up Conference. However, we recognize that every child has different developmental needs. If you have a child age 13 or older whom you feel would benefit from participating in Lil’ Hands Up, please reach out to us to discuss additional options at [email protected].

A Fully Immersive Experience
During Lil’ Hands Up, all participants will take part in an all-immersion environment. This creates opportunities for children to engage, communicate, and learn through an accessible, language-rich experience alongside their peers and siblings.

Hands Up for Families: with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children was created with hearing parents who are learning about the Deaf community — to offer meaningful workshops, resources, and community connection that supports your journey in raising a Deaf or Hard of Hearing child. We know how important it is to learn, connect, and grow with others who share similar experiences.

All family members are welcome—your presence matters! Ages 13–17 must be with an adult 18+.

***Please be aware that this is not a child-care program but developed for children who are dDeaf or hard of hearing folks. Not for interpreting parents who want to bring their child to the conference.

To make your attendance easier, we’ve added a children’s program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing kids ages 4–12. While not required, this option is available for parents/families who are eager to learn about the Deaf community. Whether you come solo or with your child, our goal is to support you and help your small community grow—one conversation at a time.

No children are allowed in any adult workshop to ensure equal learning opportunities for all. We ask that you arrange alternative childcare for children under 4 or not potty trained.

Limited space available for children. Register as soon as possible.
